Minnesota just became the latest state to implement an online electronic filing process for the submission of franchise applications and renewals.   Like Washington, Minnesota believes that the use of an efile system will reduce costs and improve the efficiency in reviewing and processing franchise applications and renewals.   The Minnesota Department of Commerce website contains detailed step by step instructions [PDF] for submitting filings online along with a helpful “Frequently Asked Questions” Sheet.   A person starts by creating an account and obtaining a username and password.  The user can then login under its account, upload and submit documents.  The eFiling system also permits users to submits responses to deficiency letters from the state.    Minnesota will still accept paper filings but is encouraging franchisors registering or renewal franchise applications in the state to move towards adopting the eFiling system.
